Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has given his “blessing” to the Blues making a move for Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, according to the Daily Mail.

The English tabloid claims the London club are “seriously exploring” a move for the Spanish international with some progress already being made on the transfer.

In contrast to negotiations for Moises Caicedo, getting Brighton to offload Sanchez is likely to be very straightforward. Despite starting last season as the club’s number one, he has been relegated to third choice under manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Bart Verbruggen has been recruited from Anderlecht this summer and he is expected to put on gloves, with Jason Steele set to become the Dutchman’s backup.

Sanchez will be allowed to leave, with the Mail having previously reported that the Seagulls are willing to sell for around £30m, although that asking price could be lowered as a buyer has still not been found for him. With Chelsea keen on looking at cheaper options to recruit in goal, the Spaniard appears to be the right fit.

The Blues’ goalkeeping coach is Ben Roberts. He moved with Graham Potter from Brighton last year and he has remained in his post under Pochettino.

Having already worked with Sanchez in the past, he is the championing the keeper’s move to Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been busy in the transfer market in recent days

Chelsea have been pretty active over the weekend bringing in new players, having recruited two players from Ligue One.

Lesley Ugochukwu will be joining from Rennes for £23m, while the London club have also wrapped up the transfer of Monaco defender Axel Disasi.

The France international is set to cost €45m (£38m), and he will provide cover for Wesley Fofana who has suffered a long-term knee injury.
