Chelsea trio Ian Maatsen, Conor Gallagher and Trevoh Chalobah “could be sold” before the transfer window closes, according to the Evening Standard.

Maatsen and Chalobah both started the friendly draw against Newcastle, while Gallagher came off the bench, but the three players have uncertain futures at Stamford Bridge.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino was asked specifically about Maatsen’s future after the Magpies game and he said the Dutchman is in his plans for the moment. However, he then went out to say that he can’t have four left-backs in his squad:

“In that position, we have four and sometimes the squad is unbalanced. We need to build a balanced squad to have the possibility to compete for a [high] position [in the table] but not have players who are going to be the third or fourth option for one place.”

Maatsen has been attracting interest from Burnley, West Ham, Nottingham Forest, Benfica and Wolfsburg but Chelsea have reportedly slapped a £20m price tag on the defender.

Gallagher and Chalobah also have suitors

Conor Gallagher has already been the subject of a £40m bid from West Ham, but the offer was rejected, with the Blues holding out for as much as £50m.

There are conflicting reports on whether the England international actually wants to leave the club. It is believed he was left confused about his future after a £45m proposal from Everton was accepted in January.

Gallagher turned down the move at the time but there are suggestions that he may now be more open to a transfer.

With regards to Chalobah, it would be a surprise if he was offloaded this summer, considering the club’s injury problems at the back. At the moment, Chelsea only have three fit centre-halves, with Benoit Badiashile set to miss the start of the season and Wesley Fofana sidelined for the long term.
