Chelsea are interested in signing Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, according to the Corriere Dello Sport (via 90min.com).

The 25-year-old has already been the subject of interest from Newcastle and Liverpool this summer but the Italian newspaper claims the Blues are also keen on securing the player’s services.

Juve are believed to be open to selling Chiesa, with a valuation of €60m (£51m) having been set, although no club has so far met the asking price.

The Italian international has recently recovered from a serious knee injury, and that is likely a big reason why teams are hesitant about paying such a high transfer fee for him.

However, Chiesa did finish last season pretty strongly, scoring two goals and providing two assists in his last five league games, whilst also getting on the scoresheet for his country against the Netherlands in the UEFA Nations League last month.

A replacement for Christian Pulisic?

With the American international seemingly closing in on a move to AC Milan, Chelsea may well be considering strengthening their options out wide.

Up until recently, they had a wealth of options in regards to wingers but, with Pulisic leaving, and both Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi expected to follow him out of Stamford Bridge, a move for Chiesa could be considered.

Chelsea would be getting a very talented player

Although the Italian’s star has fallen slightly over the past twelve to eighteen months due to his fitness problems, he was outstanding for Italy at Euro 2020. He has also received fulsome praise from ex-professionals, including 1982 World Cup winner, Bruno Conti, who said back in 2018:

“He has all the quality to do well because he is a genuine talent. He can play on either flank depending on whether the coach asks him to get to the byline and cross or pull back inside and try for a shot. In order to do that, you need your basic technique to be flawless.”
