Chelsea Make Transfer Decision As They Are ‘Offered The Chance’ To Sign £34M Rated Playmaker

Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is not a priority target for Chelsea despite the club being “offered the chance” to buy the player, according to CaughtOffside.com.

The Serbian’s agent is an ex-Blues player, Mateja Kezman, and it is believed that he has mentioned the name of his client to his former club in recent weeks, with Milinkovic-Savic available for €40m (£34m).

However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side are reportedly prioritising moves for a different type of midfielder, with Milinkovic-Savic not currently among their top targets.

Brighton’s Moises Caicedo and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia are said to be Chelsea’s priorities, with talks said to be already underway to sign both players.

The presence of Enzo Fernandez

One of the goals for the summer transfer window is believed to be finding players who could allow the club’s record signing to play further forward.

After arriving from Benfica in January, Fernandez played mostly as the deepest-lying midfielder, which doesn’t make the best use of his talents.

The focus for the Blues is to bring in signings like Caicedo, who could hold the fort in midfield, while Fernandez is unleashed higher up the pitch. In that context, you can understand why Milinkovic-Savic, who is a playmaker, would not be a priority.

Chelsea could do with more depth in midfield

It is important to point out, though, that the Blues have lost a lot of central midfield players recently. Jorginho left for Arsenal in January, while N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have departed in recent weeks. There is even speculation that Conor Gallagher could be allowed to leave as well.

In that context, manager Mauricio Pochettino may feel that he needs additional depth and, more importantly, experience in the middle of the park. Milinkovic-Savic could offer that so there is a case for Chelsea considering a move for the 28-year-old.
