Top Tier Journalist Confirms Chelsea Will ‘Table’ £28M Bid For 19 Goal Forward But Arsenal Are Also In The Mix

Chelsea are expected to “table” a €32m (£28m) offer for Montpellier striker Elye Wahi, according to RMC Sport reporter Fabrice Hawkins.

The journalist, who broke the story that the Blues had agreed to sign Malo Gusto in January, says that the London club will hold discussions about the deal in “the coming days”.

There are, however, some issues that need to be resolved before a transfer goes ahead. Chelsea want Wahi to move on loan to feeder club Strasbourg but that is not something that the player is open to.

It is also believed that other teams could get involved. Hawkins reports that both Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund have “inquired” about the forward‘s availability as well.

For the time being, though, it appears as if Mauricio Pochettino’s side are very much frontrunners for Wahi’s signature, as long as they can convince him to join Strasbourg.

Wahi had a great season in Ligue One

The France Under 21 international had a breakout campaign for Montpellier, scoring 19 goals in the league, finishing joint-seventh in the goalscoring charts.

Considering his pedigree, it is actually somewhat surprising that Chelsea don’t want him to play for their first team straight away.

Chelsea are not exactly blessed with forwards

The London club are rather short of options upfront. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to join Marseille on a free transfer and that would leave the likes of Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja as the only recognised strikers in the first-team squad.

However, it is more than likely that Pochettino has his eye on a different target. The Blues have been linked with plenty of number nines this summer, including Juventus’s Dusan Vlahovic, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, but so far, no one has emerged as the number one priority. You would hope that will change before the transfer window closes next month.
