Chelsea are weighing up a move for New England Revolution goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic, according to the Daily Telegraph.

After allowing Kepa Arrizabalaga to leave for Real Madrid on loan, manager Mauricio Pochettino is keen to find a replacement.

Petrovic has been on the Blues’ radar since moving to the US from Cukaricki in April last year, having impressed with his performances in Major League Soccer.

The Telegraph claim the Serbian, who has been capped twice by his country at senior level, is being “considered” as a potential “no.2” for Robert Sanchez.

With the former Brighton keeper having started the 1-1 draw against Liverpool last weekend, it appears he will be the undisputed first choice going forward, now that Kepa has left Stamford Bridge.

Petrovic has had a solid season for New England

The Serbian international has had a decent campaign in MLS, conceding 27 times in 22 appearances and keeping 7 clean sheets.

With the Revolution sitting second from top of the Eastern Conference heading into the final 11 games of the regular season, they are set to make the playoffs.

Chelsea have looked at other keepers

A move for Petrovic would be somewhat surprising due to his low profile but the Blues are working on a tight budget after spending huge amounts on the likes of Moises Caicedo.

The recruitment department are said to be fans of both Porto’s Diogo Costa and Valencia’s Giorgi Mamardashvili, but neither goalkeeper would come cheap.

For that reason, the London club have looked at Petrovic and, somewhat surprisingly, former Manchester United no.1 David De Gea, who is currently a free agent.

Some may argue that De Gea would be the better choice out of the two, considering his experience, but it appears that Chelsea have other ideas. The fact that Petrovic is nine years younger (at 23) may have swung things in his favour.
