Chelsea still working on move for Arsenal star

Chelsea are still working on a move for Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, despite withdrawing their original offer for the Frenchman.

The Daily Mail report that Giroud reportedly agreed a deal to join the Blues earlier this week, however with Arsenal not meeting the deadline set by Chelsea due to their ongoing attempts to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, they withdraw their offer.

Despite having pulled out of a deal for Giroud however, talks are thought to be ongoing between the two clubs over the transfer of the France international, with Antonio Conte keen to land a new striker before the end of the transfer window tomorrow night.

Conte is unhappy with his striking options at Stamford Bridge, and wants to add a targetman to help support first choice striker Alvaro Morata who is recently struggled for form.

The Spaniard has failed to score in his last six games in all competitions after a blistering start to the season in which he found the net eight times in his first nine games for the club.

Conte is also willing to let go of Michy Batshuayi in order to make room for Giroud, and is thought to prefer a loan-deal for the Belgian striker, who has been linked with both West Ham and Newcastle.

Any move for Giroud however will rely on Arsenal completing a deal for Aubameyang.

The Borussia Dortmund star and Gabon international is thought to be keen on a move to The Emirates however a deal is yet to be reached with Arsenal and Dortmund stalling over the striker’s valuation.
