Chelsea Star Seals British Record Exit From Stamford Bridge

Chelsea have sold Bethany England for £250,000 to Tottenham, breaking the record for a transfer fee in English Women’s football.

The 28-year-old had scored 74 goals in 164 appearances for the Blues, but she had lost her place as a regular starter in Emma Hayes’s team.

With the Women’s World Cup coming up next summer, England was keen on leaving Stamford Bridge to give herself the best chance of regaining her place in the international setup before the tournament.

The £250,000 that Spurs have spent on the forward eclipses the previous record that Chelsea set when they paid Manchester United £200,000 for Lauren James in 2021.

England will, however, be moving to a team struggling in the Women’s Super League table, with Tottenham having lost four matches in a row heading into the winter break. They are hoping that the 21-cap international can rescue their season by providing the goals that have been in short supply.
