Chelsea Snubbed By Yet Another Manager

Prospective managers shutting the door on Chelsea has become somewhat of a trend off late, and continuing that trend is the current Swansea City boss Laudrup, who has decided to stay put at Swansea by signing an extension, which will tie him to the club till 2015.

Chelsea are currently under the management of Rafael Benitez, who was named as a short-term interim manager till the end of the season, after Blues owner Roman Abramovich sacked Italian Roberto di Matteo last year. As Benitez’s time as Chelsea boss draws to a close, there have been talks about the possible candidates for the Chelsea hot seat.

The London club has been linked to a host of managers in recent months, starting with Pep Guardiola. Abramovich was a big fan of Guardiola, given his success at Barcelona, and Abramovich was keen to lure the Spaniard to Stamford Bridge with hopes of emulating Barcelona’s success. Guardiola then stepped down as Barcelona boss in order to take a sabbatical for a year at the end of last season, and only recently announced his intentions of returning to a management position starting next season. Chelsea were then immediately linked to him, as Abramovich was reportedly prepared to break the bank in order to land the highly-regarded manager. However, Guardiola rejected Chelsea’s advances and opted to join German giants Bayern Munich by replacing Jupp Henyckes, who was himself stepping down from his post in the summer.

After Guardiola snubbed Chelsea, rumors linking the Blues with prospective managers further intensified. They were linked to the likes of the man Guardiola was replacing, Jupp Henyckes, Borussia Dortmund’s boss Jurgen Klopp, Juventus manager Antonio Conte, Russia national team boss Fabio Capello and former boss and current Real Madrid honcho Jose Mourinho. However none of these rumors have any substantial weight and reliability to them, and as a result, have died down a lttle.

They were also interested in bringing Swansea’s Laudrup. However, they will have to look elsewhere now, as the Dane has decided to stay with Swansea, having signed an extension until 2015. Laudrup has been a revelation at Swansea since he took over from Brendan Rodgers, who departed for Liverpool. Laurdup led them to glory in the Capital One Cup, and his attractively attacking side sits comfortably at a lofty height of 8th place in the league table.

Laudrup spoke to Swansea’s official website where he expressed his delight at extending his stay. He said, “We’ve started something this season that I want to continue,”

“I know there has been a lot of speculation (about my future), but I’ve always said that I am happy here and I never had any doubts I would stay.”

“I am delighted to sign the new deal and I’m already really looking forward to next season. I hope there will be some very exciting things happening with the team and with the club in Europe.”

With Laurdup slamming the door on Chelsea’s face, who will the Blues finally turn to now in their desperate search for a new boss?
