‘It’s Sad’ Maligned Chelsea Star Should Consider Transfer Move To London Rivals, Says Former Blues Player

Former Chelsea superstar Florent Malouda has urged the exiled Romelu Lukaku to move to a different club as he named some potential suitors in the Premier League [via Betway].

Two of the clubs he mentioned are bitter rivals of the Blues – Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United. However, he believes that moving to another London club in England’s top flight ‘may suit him’. However, he said that a move to Manchester United would be a bad decision as he feels Lukaku is ‘sensitive’.

It would be a sensational surprise to see Lukaku move to to either Spurs or the Hammers at this stage in his career. Nevertheless, if he was snapped up by West Ham, he would be able to play European football in 2023/24.

What did Florent Malouda have to say regarding Romelu Lukaku?

Speaking with Betway, Malouda said: “Unfortunately, it has reached breaking point for Lukaku at Chelsea. It’s not about football, it seems to be about feelings, and it’s sad to see because I know he is a big Chelsea fan, but the club is on another path.

“Lukaku still could reach his prime in European football, but he’s a sensitive person. I don’t think Manchester United would be a good idea.

“Tottenham would be a good option, though, as it may suit him to go to a London club. Spurs could be a solution but West Ham could be a good idea as well.

“West Ham is becoming an attractive club to join… they will be competing, like last year, in Europe, so it’s a good era to be a West Ham fan. More players will be interested in signing for them.

“I hope at one point Lukaku’s hunger to play games will help him make the right choice to be happy on the pitch. It’s sad, people are unhappy because they see him unhappy on the pitch.”

Does Romelu Lukaku still have a role to play at Chelsea?

At this point, the relationship between the club and the player is probably irretrievable. He has made it clear that he does not want to stay at Chelsea – and the Blues are now preparing for life without him.

Ironically, if there was not so much bad blood between the two parties, he may have been a good fit this season – Chelsea still have a gap that needs filling in the centre-forward position.

Despite this, Lukaku has never impressed during his two stints at Chelsea. All in all, he has made 36 appearances across his career for the Blues in the Premier League, scoring eight goals.
