‘He Will Leave For Sure’ Transfer For Chelsea Star Will Take Place In Summer Window

Chelsea fringe player Callum Hudson-Odoi will leave the club ‘for sure’ in the ongoing summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano writing in his CaughtOffside column.

Both Chelsea and Hudson-Odoi are keen to facilitate an exit for the player in the summer – the Blues could be open to letting him go for a relative pittance if need be.

Hudson-Odoi’s current contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire in the summer of 2024. Due to this, Chelsea will be looking to sell him as soon as possible, lest they risk losing him on a free transfer next year.

A couple of club in the Premier League have both been linked with moves for Hudson-Odoi – Fulham and Nottingham Forest are both reportedly interested in the player, but neither have been able to agree terms as of yet.

What did Romano say regarding Hudson-Odoi in his column?

In his column on CaughtOffside, Romano wrote: “Departures also remain something to keep an eye on, with Callum Hudson-Odoi another player out of the Chelsea project. The latest is that Fulham have left the race for his signature as of now. There’s also interest from Nottingham Forest but nothing close yet.

“Still, he will leave Chelsea for sure, the club has been very clear in their message to the player to find another solution this summer.”

Could Callum Hudson-Odoi still have a role to play at Chelsea?

Despite the impending expiration of the Nigeria international’s contract, it seems odd that Chelsea are so vehement in their efforts to move him on.

Chelsea currently have something of an injury crisis in the wide positions, following the confirmation that Carney Chukwuemeka will be out of action for six weeks.

At the age of just 22, Hudson-Odoi still has plenty of time to develop into a better player. Last season, his performances were underwhelming – he spent the campaign on loan at Bayer Leverkusen, where he scored just a single goal in 21 appearances.

Nevertheless, given Chelsea’s massive amounts of financial resources, they seem confident that they can find a stronger replacement for Hudson-Odoi when he leaves.
