Chelsea midfielder set to leave Stamford Bridge this summer

Chelsea midfielder Danny Drinkwater will leave Stamford Bridge at the end of the season after growing frustrated at his lack of playing time, according to reports.

Drinkwater joined the Blues last summer in a late £35 million deal from Leicester City, however has since struggled to establish himself as a regular in Antonio Conte’s side.

The Englishman has been limited to only five league starts since moving to South East London, his last appearance coming five weeks ago in the defeat to Manchester City.

N’Golo Kante, Cesc Fabregas and Tiemoue Bakayoko are all preferred in midfield to Drinkwater by Antonio Conte.

Subsequent to his move to Chelsea, Drinkwater was pushing for a place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup – making a trio of appearances for the Three Lions throughout 2016.

He has since dropped out of Southgate’s plans however and will leave Chelsea in search of regular first team football in order to try and reinstate himself on the international stage.

A host of clubs are understood interested in Drinkwater should he be allowed to leave Stamford Bridge come May, including West Ham, who are looking to bolster their options in midfield after yet another disappointing season at the London Stadium.

Chelsea are expected to demand close to £25 million for Drinkwater’s signature in order to recoup and reinvest a large portion of the money spent on him last summer.
