Chelsea going for broke as Conte eyes four further signings in August

Chelsea have already made waves in the transfer market by capturing Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Alvaro Morata but Antonio Conte’s summer spree is far from complete, according to reports.

The Blues have lost a wealth of talent this summer with John Terry, Asmir Begovic and Nemanja Matic amongst the abundance of players leaving Stamford Bridge either permanently or on-loan, whilst Diego Costa is expected to follow before the window slams shut.

Those exits have left Chelsea’s squad lacking depth ahead of the new season and that could be a major issue with the Blues returning to Champions League action, which will stretch their squad as Conte’s men didn’t have to worry about European endeavours last year.

It’s now indicated that Chelsea want to double the number of players they’ve already signed this summer with the addition of four more signings, with Conte eyeing a new central defender, a wing-back, a midfielder and an attacker.

Alex Sandro and Virgil Van Dijk are the two defensive signings that Chelsea have been linked with regularly in recent months and Swansea City striker Fernando Llorente has been a target for Conte ever since the January transfer window.

Leicester City midfielder Danny Drinkwater has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks as a replacement for Serbian international Matic, who moved to Manchester United, and the England ace could be an asset for the Blues.

Alternative targets for Chelsea include Inter Milan duo Ivan Perisic and Antonio Candreva, Bayern Munich’s Renato Sanches, Paris Saint-Germain full-back Serge Aurier and Arsenal’s England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The problem for the Blues is that clubs across Europe know that Chelsea will be getting desperate as they approach the end of the transfer window and the fact Eden Hazard and Bakayoko are both carrying injuries ahead of tomorrow’s Community Shield clash with Arsenal is a major concern.

Chelsea do have the replacements ready to step-in and fill those spots in the side but Conte’s team cannot afford to suffer any more injury set-backs as things stand, as it would leave his ranks severely depleted ahead of next weekend’s Premier League kick-off.
