Chelsea Eyeing Deal For Senegalese Ace Who Nearly Joined Manchester United

Chelsea are interested in signing Club Brugge winger Krepin Diatta, according to Voetbal24.be. The Belgian website claims that the Blues could “soon” make the move to Stamford Bridge.

The Senegalese international has been in decent form this campaign, having scored eight goals and contributed four assists in 34 appearances.

Diatta can play on either wing, cutting in onto his stronger right foot from the left, or providing width on the right flank. The 21-year-old has actually been close to a move England before.

He started his professional career in Norway at Sarpsborg and the player revealed recently that Manchester United scouted him a number of times. However, work permit problems meant a deal never materialised:

“They came to see me in Norway a number of times, but they never offered me a contract because I wouldn’t have got a work permit. Either way, it was too soon and it was to play in their reserves.”

Diatta would certainly fit into Chelsea’s policy of signing young and exciting talent, but he is unlikely to be a player who would have the ability to come in and make an impact straight away. Perhaps the Blues believe the Senegalese has the potential to improve in the future.
