Chelsea Could Hand United Transfer Advantage In Race For 26M Rated Dutch Speedster

Chelsea are not expected to pursue Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong during the January transfer window, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

Both the Blues and Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Dutch international in recent weeks but Phillips says that Graham Potter’s side may delay their plans to sign a right wingback until the summer:

“I think it’s a position that Chelsea will address in the summer rather than January, but they are starting to look at targets. Jeremie Frimpong is on there. Chelsea have scouted him a few times in recent seasons and they’ve stepped that up again now under the new ownership.”

It is believed that Frimpong will be made available for a fee in the region of €25m (£21.5m) to €30m (£26m) when the window opens next month and it seems United are now the frontrunners.

Considering that Chelsea have struggled to replace Reece James, following the England international’s knee injury, you would have thought that a backup option would be a top priority.

Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries has also been mentioned as a potential candidate but it appears that both he and Frimpong are not top of the club’s agenda in terms of targets.
