Chelsea considering changes and eye former Dortmund boss Tuchel

Chelsea have endured a difficult summer so far, following a wealth of losses from the first team and a surprise opening defeat at the hands of Burnley, but the Blues made great progress on Sunday afternoon with a hard-fought victory over Spurs at Wembley.

The timely victory over Mauricio Pochettino’s side is believed to have eased the pressure upon manager Antonio Conte but it seems that’s far from the truth, as fresh reports indicate they’re already lining-up their next manager.

Originating from German outlet Sportbild, it’s claimed that the Stamford Bridge hierarchy have identified former Borussia Dortmund boss Thomas Tuchel as the man to take them forward should Conte’s position become intangible.

The Italian boss is set to have clashed with Chelsea on numerous occasions this season due to the club’s transfer approach, which has seen the Blues’ squad gutted and left with a lack of squad depth in significant areas following the sales of Nemanja Matic, John Terry and others.

Amidst all the frustrations during the summer period, Chelsea improved Conte’s contract in West London but did not extend his deal- leading to speculation that there were some positions of discontent between the two parties.

Tuchel’s name is a surprise though as Chelsea have always gone with experienced winners during Roman Abramovich’s spell in charge at the club and the German boss has won no honours to date, raising questions as to whether he’d be capable of leading Chelsea to further glory.

Crucially though, it’s not known when Chelsea will make a change in management but the final week of the transfer window is likely to be decisive on Conte’s position, as he may seek an exit on his own terms if his demands are not met.

The Blues have been linked with a wealth of new signings heading into the finale of the transfer window, including Juventus full-back Alex Sandro and Leicester City duo Jamie Vardy and Danny Drinkwater, but it remains to be seen whether Conte’s demands in the market will be met.
