Chelsea Consider Surprise Name To Take Over As Manager If Sarri Is Sacked

England assistant coach Steve Holland could be appointed interim manager by Chelsea if the club chooses to sack Maurizio Sarri, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Italian could lose his job if he doesn’t win the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City tomorrow, with the Blues considering possible replacements.

Holland worked at Chelsea for eight years before becoming Gareth Southgate’s right-hand man two years ago. With England having just two games before the end of the season, the London club are hoping he could be persuaded to return as caretaker manager for the remainder of the campaign.

Whether the FA would allow Holland to make his return to Stamford Bridge, it remains to be seen. The main alternative to Holland would be club legend, and current assistant coach, Gianfranco Zola.

The Italian is an experienced manager in his own right, but he has struggled in his last two major managerial appointments at both Cagliari and Birmingham City.

Still, giving the reins to Holland, who has only had one spell as manager at Crewe ten years ago, would arguably be more of a risk
