Chelsea Beat Southampton And Oscar Feels They Are Getting More Confident

It had been a while since Chelsea had won two games in a row in the Premier league. In fact it is the first time this season that the Blues have gone on a winning run of two games in the League and they did it by coming back to beat Ronald Koeman’s in-form Southampton side 2-1 on Saturday. The Saints came into this match on a 6 game unbeaten streak which included 5 wins and given their recent result over Chelsea where they won at Stamford Bridge in the last match between the 2 sides, this was a tough game for the Blues.

Guus Hiddink’s men were trailing 1-0 at half-time due to a Shane Long goal conceded just before the interval which as everyone knows is a terrible time to let a goal in. The goal came as a result of Long seizing on a mistake by Baba Rahman before beating Courtois with a decent finish. Hiddink acted decisively and replaced Baba Rahman for the beginning of the second half and as the BBC reported the manager had this to say about the substitution: “I don’t want to make a fake injury. I took him off because of the error. He has to cope with that. He was very down in the locker room about his mistake, but we have to make decisions like we did.”

Chelsea did not let the goal get to them however and they kept their composure and kept plugging away before they finally got their equaliser in the 75th minute courtesy of a Fabregas cross-shot. The winner came in the 89th minute when the warrior-like Ivanovic rose to head in a Willian cross in the 89th minute winning the game 2-1 for Chelsea.

There is no question that Chelsea look a much more composed and complete side under Hiddink now as they remain unbeaten in the League in his 11 games in charge and they seem like they are more than capable of winning every game. You can hear what Oscar had to say about the win and the returning confidence of the team in this Sky Sports interview below from Audioboom…
