Chelsea Backed To Recruit “Natural Number Nine” Who Could Cost 107M This Summer

Chelsea should pursue a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen next summer, according to Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison.

The Blues did recruit a number of forward players during the January transfer window, including Joao Felix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke, but Morrison feels Graham Potter’s side missed a trick by not signing an out-and-out no.9. He believes they could put that right by going after someone like Osimhen:

“They spent all that money and they don’t have a natural number nine that can put the ball in the net. Victor Osimhen, the boy at Napoli, I do like. I think there are a lot of big clubs watching him. I think he could suit Chelsea.”

Osimhen is believed to be on Chelsea’s radar, along with Juventus’s Dusan Vlahovic, but it remains to be seen whether they will step up their interest in the Nigerian international.

There is expected to be competition for the forward, with both Manchester United and Arsenal having been linked with the player previously, while Napoli are unlikely to let him leave without a fight either. Reports in Italy suggest the Serie A leaders may hold out for a fee in the region of €120m (£107m).
