Chelsea Are ‘Ready’ To Make Formal Offer For 25 Year Old Once Kepa Exit Is Finalised

Chelsea are “ready” to make a formal approach for Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan, according to Le10 Sport. However, the French magazine claims that the Blues will only make their move for the 25-year-old once Kepa Arrizabalaga has been offloaded.

With the London club closing in on deals for Leicester’s Ben Chilwell and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz, it is believed they won’t have the funds to finance a bid for a new keeper unless players are sold.

It means any approach for Maignan depends on the departure of Kepa and, at the moment, there doesn’t appear to be much interest in the Spanish international.

The goalkeeper struggled during his second season in England, with manager Frank Lampard having dropped him for Willy Caballero on two occasions. A loan move to Valencia has been hinted at but that would hardly bring in the funds necessary to sign Maignan.

Chelsea are also said to be looking at Rennes shot-stopper Edouard Mendy as another more economical alternative.
