Chelsea Make Enquiry For Senegalese International As Club Step Up Plans To Replace Kepa

Chelsea have made an enquiry about signing Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, according to multiples reports in the UK.

The Senegalese shot-stopper is being eyed as a potential replacement for Kepa Arrizabalaga with goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon said to be a big fan of the 28-year-old’s abilities. It is thought that Mendy’s name came up during negotiations over Fikayo Tomori’s potential loan switch to Rennes but, at this stage, there are no plans to step up their interest with a formal bid.

It is widely known that Kepa does not have a future with the Blues but, surprisingly, a new keeper is not seen as the number one priority this summer with the club devoting most of their transfer funds to signing Leicester’s Ben Chilwell and Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, Burnley’s Nick Pope and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak are other names that have been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge but due to budgetary constraints, a move for someone like Mendy is believed to be more realistic.
