Chelsea Ace Reveals What Lampard Said That Persuaded Him To Stay At The Club

Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi has revealed it only took one conversation with manager Frank Lampard in order to persuade him to sign a new contract with the club.

The teenager had been heavily linked with a switch to Bayern Munich, and with his contract running into the final twelve months, there were concerns that he could leave at the end of the season. However, it was confirmed in September that he signed a new five-year deal.

Asked how many conversations it took with Lampard to make the decision, Hudson-Odoi replied:

“One. I can’t say exactly what he said but he just said he believes in me, he wants me to work hard and if I believe in myself then he believes in me and things will go well for me at this club.”

“And he wants me to play for him. They were encouraging signs for me that you want to hear from a manager, that he believes in you and he has faith in you, that you can become a good player and achieve a lot of stuff at the club.”

Lampard’s faith in youth is certainly paying off and while Hudson-Odoi is still a work in progress, it’s clear that he could turn into a very special player; one who was vital the club kept hold of.

So far this campaign, the 19-year-old has racked up two goals and five assists in 13 appearances, but he will have to be patient to get his chances with Christian Pulisic having been favoured ahead of him in recent games.
