Carragher Makes John Terry Comparison As He Praises Ability Of Chelsea Star

Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has praised Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma for the number of goals he is scoring from set-pieces this season.

The Frenchman was on the scoresheet once again in the 3-1 win over Leeds at the weekend, making it four goals in ten league appearances for the centre-back, and Carragher has compared him to Blues legend John Terry:

“I mentioned Zouma again and how important he has been this season. Frank Lampard knows how much a goal-scoring centre-back’s important; he had John Terry, the best goal-scoring centre-back, I think, in Premier League history.”

That’s some praise indeed but Carragher is right to highlight Zouma’s improvement in that area. Before this campaign, he had only scored five goals in total for the Blues and, if he continues at the rate he is going, he could well end up in double figures.

The most Terry scored was eight in one season, but he regularly got 5+ goals every year during his long spell at the club. Whether Zouma can keep up his consistency, we shall see, but his excellent heading ability means he should be a constant threat from set-pieces.
