Batshuayi’s First Words At Chelsea

Chelsea completed the signing of £33million striker Michy Batshuayi this week, the Belgian is an extremely exciting prospect and his arrival had been eagerly anticipated.

The 22-year-old gave his first interview as a Chelsea player on the club’s official website, here are some of the highlights from the new man.

“It feels fantastic to be here, it’s a childhood dream for me. It’s wonderful. It’s very big and you feel that you’ve joined a club that really want to win. They (Hazard and Courtois) told me I was joining a magnificent club with a magnificent stadium and magnificent fans. I’m very young and still have progress to make but I’m a very technical player and like to use both feet.”

The forward scored for Belgium in this summer’s Euros against Italy, a side managed by Antonio Conte – who will now be his new manager at Chelsea. Batshuayi said he had only spoken to Conte breifly upon his arrival, but is looking forward to further impressing the boss. The goal will certainly give Conte something to think about.

“It’s a real chance for me and I’m looking forward to starting with a new club and new coach. It’s a great opportunity.”

The youngster was asked who his idol was then growing up, to which he responded: “The Brazilian Ronaldo. He was a phenomenal player.” When the striker was asked if he would like to follow in the footsteps of Chelsea legend Drogba, a man who also moved to Stamford Bridge from Marseille, he said: “We are different people, I totally respect the career Didier had at Chelsea and I am going to do my best.”
