Barcelona Set To Enter £37m Battle With Chelsea For Brazilian Defender

Barcelona are interested in signing Porto left-back Alex Telles, according to reports in the Catalan media. The Brazilian is one of four players that the La Liga club are keen on signing at the end of the season.

Chelsea have had a long-standing interest in the fullback, and it looks likely that the Blues will be battling Barca to secure the player’s signature in the summer.

Telles’s current deal expires in 2021 and with Porto unwilling to allow the 27-year-old to run down his contract, it is almost certain that they will sell up.

The defender’s current release clause is €40m (£37m) but he is likely to be sold for a lower amount considering Porto’s willingness to offload him.

For Chelsea boss Frank Lampard, Telles could well be a more economical option than Leicester’s Ben Chilwell who could cost more than £60m. With a limited transfer budget, the Blues may see the Porto left-back as the best alternative.
