Azpilicueta Not Interested In Spain Move

César Azpilicueta has been colossal at the back for Chelsea ever since joining the club from Marseille in a £7 million move in August 2012. His performances led Sky Sports pundits and former Premier League defenders Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher to label him as the ‘best defender in the country’.

Despite signing a new contract with the Blues in September, the 25-year-old has been linked with a move to his native Spain with Barcelona and Real Madrid showing interest. However, in what will be a big boost to Chelsea, the full-back does not want to move to La Liga.

According to the Express, he said, “I do not think about [a move to Spain]. I am very happy here. I follow La Liga but personally I do not think about returning there. Now I’m really enjoying London. I prefer the Premier League.”

He added, “Those words (from Neville and Carragher) flatter me. But also they make me eager to improve. I have always worked to be one of the best and it is clear that the more you achieve the more pressure you have.”

“But I still can improve a lot. Whenever I see a game, I tried to look at other players who play in my position because they teach me things to improve myself. I am lucky to train with great defenders and they are also an example for me.”

Working with Jose Mourinho has obviously been most beneficial to Azpilicueta’s game so it only makes sense that he wants to continue playing for Chelsea where he has developed into one of Europe’s top defenders.
