Atletico are having one of the best seasons thus far as they fight tooth and nail against the mighty Barcelona for league supremacy. The Spanish outfit, managed by the brilliant Diego Simeone, have their solid defence to thank who have tightened things at the back massively. Much has been down to the heroics of Courtois in goal.

The Belgian has struck up a love affair of sorts with Atletico, as he is currently in his third consecutive loan spell at the Vicente Calderon. The 21-year old’s performances have been outstanding and he is regarded as one of the brightest young keepers in the game, however he is due to return to parent club Chelsea in the summer, where Jose Mourinho intends to provide current first-choice Petr Cech some serious competition next season.

However, Courtois has mentioned previously that he is not interested in playing second fiddle to Cech, and instead prefers to play regularly. Atletico too do not want him to leave and are pulling out all the stops to ensure that they sign him up permanently, once and for all, report the Express.

When Simeone was asked whether he will part with that massive sum of money, he did not think twice before saying, “Definitely. For me anything paid for Courtois would be cheap.”

“Signing a goalkeeper of his caliber would be a big step, but it will not be easy.”
