Atletico Eye Permanent Courtois Transfer?

Thibaut Courtois has never played for the London club despite joining them way back in 2011. Ever since his transfer from Genk, he has been sent out on consecutive loan deals every season. He spent the last two years at Atletico Madrid on loan, and has now made it a hat-trick this time around.

He is in the middle of an outstanding season for the Spanish outfit, who are fighting toe-to-toe with Barcelona at the summit of the league. The Atletico hierarchy are really happy with the 21-year old’s performances between the sticks and are contemplating signing him permanently rather than re-entering into negotiations with Chelsea every summer over him.

They are preparing a £10 million bid for him, however Courtois is highly regarded across the continent and by Chelsea themselves, who are not considering selling him at the moment. Therefore, Atletico president Enrique Cerezo feels that it would take much more than £10 million to convince them into parting with the young star, report Metro.

They quoted him as saying, “We are interested but the price is too much,”

“We want to try to do business, but it depends on Chelsea. We must study everything. For me, it is clear that Courtois is the best goalkeeper in Europe. He is incredible on the pitch.”

With Atletico planning to build on this season’s performances for future success, signing up Courtois will be integral to their plans. Do you see the La Liga side shelling out the required money for him, or will they instead go for an unprecedented fourth loan deal?
