Chelsea are set to open talks over extending Kurt Zouma’s contract, according to the Guardian‘s Fabrizio Romano. The Italian journalist claimed on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast that Blues boss Frank Lampard is very happy with the 26-year-old’s development and sees him as a future leader in the squad.
The defender’s current deal has two and a half years remaining on it, but it appears the London club are keen to reward the player for his excellent recent form. Supporters on Twitter are very much behind the move to give the centre-back an extension:

He can really learn so much this season and next season from Silva. He could turn into our new JT! Bring along Rice/Ampadu/Tomori/Upemacano next to him and it’ll be an unbelievable partnership. Hope he keeps on learning from that veteran, Thiago!

Zouma has struggled with consistency in the past, but his partnership with Thiago Silva has seen him flourish into a confident, dominant centre-half. He has moved ahead of the likes of Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori in the pecking order at Stamford Bridge.
His performances have also been rewarded with a call-up to France’s national team. The centre-back started the 2-0 defeat to Finland last night; his first appearances since he scored against Andorra in a 4-0 win last year.
