Terry Questions Carragher’s Decision To Leave Him Out Of PL Team Of The Decade

Chelsea legend John Terry has questioned Jamie Carragher’s decision to omit him from his Premier League team of the decade. The Sky Sports pundit posted his eleven on Instagram with Vincent Kompany and Virgil van Dijk taking the two centre-back spots:

The former Blues captain, however, was having none of it, pointing to his three league titles over the last ten years and his feat in playing every single minute in the title-winning season in 2014/15:

“9/10, 14/15, played every minute of every game! Only the 5th player EVER to do that, 16/17.”

Carragher did admit that he was close to selecting Terry but opted for van Dijk instead because he believes the Reds centre-half has the ability to become the best defender in Premier League history.

Of course, you shouldn’t take these teams too seriously. Recency bias means someone like van Dijk will get favoured because his performances are fresher in the memory, and the fact that Carragher is a former Liverpool player would have also swayed his opinion.

Terry has also undoubtedly been more influential than van Dijk, having won three league titles and a Champions League this decade.
