Hazard: I Must Improve

Eden Hazard has admitted he must do much better if he is to emulate his success from last season. The 24-year-old was awarded both the PFA and Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year awards last year, but has struggled to get going this year with some poor performances.

Chelsea have had a disastrous start to their title defence, claiming just four points from their opening four matches.

“It’s obvious,” he told French sports daily L’Equipe. “You don’t need to know too much about football to compare what I did last season and what I did this season. I’m not as good.”

“It’s more of a collective problem than an individual one. We’re professionals. We knew this season was going to be more difficult… but within the squad we have the quality to bounce back.”

“Individually and collectively, we’re not up to scratch.”

“We had a difficult month in August. I hope that the international break will allow me to rediscover my form.”

Hazard is undoubtedly one of the top players in the world. Everyone goes through dips of form, but his true colours will once again show within time. The international break has come at a good time for Hazard, who can take time away from the high-intensity of the Premier League.
