Zola wants Sarri to be given time to succeed

New Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri has to be given time at Stamford Bridge in order to succeed, says Blues legend Gianfranco Zola who will be the Italian’s assistant manager.

Sarri took over from Antonio Conte as manager of Chelsea last week, with Zola being appointed as his right hand man. His arrival has brought with it a new sense of optimism within the club, but it is unlikely things will click perfectly straight away.

It is unclear how well the boss will adapt to life in the Premier League, especially with the difficulties surrounding the Blues’ transfer window this summer, but Zola insists his compatriot must be given plenty of time to produce results for Chelsea.

“As long as the people at the club supports the club, have a little bit of patience with him I’m sure they will get what they are expecting,” Zola told Chelsea’s official website.

“I like the way his teams play football. They are very organised, very good defensively but also play very good football.

“I’ve always liked coaches that promote this type of football.

“I believe this is the type of philosophy this club is looking for at the moment.

“I think it can be a very good marriage. Maurizio can give the club exactly what it is looking for.”

Zola also revealed just how happy he is to return to Chelsea, the club he spent seven wonderful years at scoring 59 goals in 229 appearances.

“It’s fantastic to be working again for the club,” added Zola. “It’s wonderful to be working with this coach.

“I have a lot of excitement and desire to do well in this adventure,” said Zola.

“I’m looking forward to doing my best and to make sure we keep on giving trophies and satisfaction to the club.”
