Zidane dashes Chelsea’s hopes of landing Madrid midfielder

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has dashed Chelsea’s hopes of landing midfielder Isco after saying he wants the Spaniard at the Bernabeu “for life”.

The Blues have been heavily linked with a move for the former Malaga star, with Antonio Conte reportedly a big admirer of the Spain international and sees him as a natural successor to fellow international compatriot Cesc Fabregas in South West London.

Chelsea are expected to make a move for Isco this summer amidst Tiemoue Bakayoko’s poor form at Stamford Bridge, however Zidane has insisted he is not for sale.

“I’m glad you’ve asked me. I was asked before [during the January transfer window] why weren’t we going to sign anyone,” Zidane told reporters.

“I said I’ve always believed in my team and I will do until the very end. When I start something I get involved, I believe where I’m going, what I should be doing and I back the people I’m working with.

“Isco’s one of them. He a very good footballer. He’s proven that in the past and will do that again.”

Isco has been limited to only 14 starts this season in La Liga for Madrid despite Los Blancos poor form, however despite him struggling for game time, Zidane remains adamant he still wants to keep him at the Bernabeu.

“I want Isco [in my team] and I want him to spend his whole life here.” he continued.

“It’s a lie that I want Isco to be sold in the summer. Hopefully we won’t hear any more of this.”
