Youri Tielemans is the perfect Chelsea signing – and here’s why

Antonio Conte’s team have taken the Premier League by storm in his first year as a manager in English football. After finishing 10th last season the Blues have been champions elect since the turn of the year and look as if nothing will stand in their way of a second title in three seasons.

Whilst Conte’s management has been superb and the performances of Eden Hazard, N’Golo Kante and the rest of the squad sublime, the west Londoners have been helped by their non-involvement in European competition this term.

With the rest of the top six – bar Liverpool – all competing in the Champions League or Europa League so far, Conte has been able to name a settled eleven throughout the season, with limited injury worries.

That is, of course, not to take away from their achievements so far, but more to point out that things will need to change next time around.

With that in mind, it would be wise for the west Londoners to begin bolstering their squad over the summer to ensure they are competitive on all fronts come the new season. The former Juventus manager already has highly talented youth products in Kurt Zouma, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathaniel Chalobah, to name a few, at his disposal but will certainly be looking to the transfer market for some added quality.

In steps Youri Tielemans. The 19-year-old Anderlecht midfielder has been lighting up the the Belgian top-flight for a couple of years now and is attracting interest from the Premier League.

As well as the Blues, Merseyside duo Liverpool and Everton have both been credited with interest in the midfielder, ahead of the summer window.

Considering the vast interest, and the increased playing opportunities which the others, especially Ronald Koeman’s side, could offer, it is down to Chelsea and Conte to prove why Stamford Bridge is the ideal place to start his Premier League career.

Whilst Conte already has a very talented, and settled, midfield – with you options to boot – Tielemans looks the real deal and, given his comparisons to Blues legend Frank Lampard, would be an instant hit with the fans.

The Belgium international, who made his bow for the Red Devils in November last year alongside Chelsea star Eden Hazard, takes no prisoners in his defensive work but has more than enough speed and power about him to carry play forward before, as he has done on countless occasions, picking out the top corner from around 30 yards out.

The Anderlecht starlet is a true box-to-box midfielder, one who could be at the very top in a few years, and someone who would very much fit in at the heart of Conte’s Chelsea midfield.
