Would Any Of These Players Help Chelsea This Season?

Even though there are almost three weeks left in the transfer period, no major transfers are in sight for the Blues. The reason behind that is due to the fact that Hiddink is an interim boss and may have little to do with what will happen next season. Mr Abramovich is the one calling the shots right now in terms of spending big and he is yet to make any moves. That does not mean that Chelsea will not sign anyone new. According to Metro, there are some players who are considered low-cost, promising and would not represent a gamble as they would not come to Stamford Bridge to be part of the starting eleven. But is there really any point in signing any of the following five players?

  1. Carlos Bacca – He is one of Hiddink’s favorites and could be the one replacing Falcao and Remy who are ready to leave. This is only short term meaning that he could come on loan. Other than that there’s now actual point in signing this 29-year-old who has reached his career-peak playing for Sevilla. Out of these five he is the most expensive but the age would be a problem if at any point, a permanent transfer is in place.
  2. Alexandre Pato – Another possible replacement for Falcao and Remy. Now with Corinthians, the 26-year-old is ready to make his return to Europe. Is he ready to join Chelsea though? Not very likely despite making almost 50 appearances in the 2014-2015 season in which he scored 15 times and provided 9 assists.
  3. Amadou Diawara – Bologna’s 18-year-old defensive midfielder has impressed this season in Serie A where he made 18 appearances. He is a more than decent player but would he fit in with Chelsea? Also, why would you bring in a youngster when you already have over 20 players sent out on loan and a youth squad that dominates European football?
  4. Cheikh N’Doye – Another defensive midfielder probably ready to replace Matic when needed. Again, why sign this guy when you have Ramires and Obi-Mikel? The only explanation would be that the two could be leaving. In that case, N`Doye would be a decent solution but again not a permanent one.
  5. Lovre Kalinic – Out of these five, Kalinic is the most likely to join Chelsea. Apparently he could add depth to the goalkeeping. With Courtois the main option for the Blues right now, Begovic is not too keen on remaining a substitute for the next couple of years. Kalinic on the other side could be at peace with that.

Again out of the five, Kalinic is the only one who looks like he would be worth the effort. The others are rather suited for teams with less expectations than Chelsea regardless of how bad this season is.
