Willian Willing To Slog It Out For World Cup Spot

The midfielder, Willian completed a £32 million move to Chelsea from Russian outfit Anzhi Makachkala. He has joined Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o who himself swapped Russia for England this summer. Willian has revealed that a major factor in his move was the fact that Jose Mourinho is at the helm of the club.

The capture of Willian signals Chelsea’s intentions for the upcoming season, as Mourinho has gone about strengthening every aspect of Chelsea’s team. The 26-year old joins the long list of play makers already present at the club like Eden Hazard, Oscar, Juan Mata and Frank Lampard.

Willian however has revealed that he does not expect to simply walk into the Chelsea setup despite his hefty price tag, and if needed, he will fight for his place in the team on a weekly basis.

He says that his ultimate goal and ambition which made him move to Chelsea is the upcoming World Cup. The Brazilian wishes to feature for his country, which is hosting the tournament next summer.

The Brazilian national team led by Luis Felipe Scolari, are gifted with abundant talent in the midfield department, and it will be all the tougher for Willian to break into the starting 11. His Chelsea team-mate Oscar is one direct competitor apart from the likes of PSG’s Lucas Moura and young Bernard, who was hugely impressive in the Confederations Cup.

Willian however says that he wants to earn his place the hard way, which is by first rising up the ranks at Chelsea and then staking his claim in the Brazil team. ESPNFC report him as saying, “I know that I haven’t secured my spot (at Chelsea), but I will do my best to achieve that place, while respecting the other players,”

“I will have to play and prove I deserve that spot. I first have to become a regular starter, then play well and be called up [by Brazil], this is my goal.”

Do you see Willian making an impact for Chelsea this season and in the process, booking his place in the Brazil team too?
