Willian Makes His Feelings Known About His Long Term Chelsea Future

Chelsea winger Willian is hopeful of extending his stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of his contract.

The Brazilian’s current deal at the club expires in 2020, but the midfielder has revealed he has yet to be offered an extension:

“I have one year left, but of course I want to play for this club. I don’t know if they want me, but of course, I want to continue here. This club is very special to me.”

“I won titles here, I have the affection from the fans and from the people that work in the club. I feel comfortable to stay. I am happy when I play well and score goals. I can give a different light.”

Willian will turn 31 in August, and the Blues have a policy in place that means that players over 30 cannot be given long term contracts.

Whether the transfer ban will change Chelsea’s approach, it remains to be seen. The departure of Eden Hazard could also influence the club’s thinking.

Although the club have already signed Christian Pulisic, the lack of a replacement for the Belgian may persuade them into giving Willian a new deal.

The Brazilian international has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs including Barcelona and Manchester United over the past year, and it’s likely that there will be more suitors in the summer if he doesn’t get an extension.
