Wilkins pins blame on two Chelsea stars

Chelsea legend Ray Wilkins has revealed the two players he thinks have let down Antonio Conte’s title defence.

The Blues stormed to the league last season and were early favourites to defend their title successfully this year. But it hasn’t turned out that way at all.

Chelsea sit 3rd in the table after 16 games, a mighty 14 points off league leaders Manchester City.

The Blues allowed both Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic to leave the club and failed to effectively replace them. And Wilkins believes the majority of the Blues’ issues are down to two players, Michy Batshuayi and Bakayoko.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Wikins blamed Chelsea’s lack of depth for their issues this season.

“They’ve only got one real centre-forward (Alvaro Morata), Michy Batshuayi is not up to it, and the release of Costa has cost them dearly.

“The sale of Nemanja Matic too. Bakayoko could have come and backed him up, but he doesn’t look like he’s the real deal at the moment.

“The way things have gone for them in the market haven’t really helped them.”

Chelsea boss Conte has already ruled his team out of the title race, and it’s fair to say many fans might just agree.
