Why this wantaway real star would be an ideal fit at Chelsea

Chelsea are getting closer and closer to a first Premier League title under Italian manager Antonio Conte, and their second in three years after a well below par season last time out under Jose Mourinho.

Their mid-week win over Southampton returned the west Londoners to winning ways in the league, having beaten their title rivals Tottenham in the FA Cup semi-final over the weekend, and puts them in the perfect position to go and beat Everton on Sunday afternoon ahead of Spurs’ crucial North London Derby.

The Blues have been in fine form all season long and, thanks to not having any European football to speak of this term, have been able to name a largely unchanged side week in, week out.

However, with Champions League football returning to Stamford Bridge next season (which can be confirmed with just a point at Goodison Park this weekend) Conte will not be afforded such leisure when as they look to challenge for titles once again.

With that in mind, the summer business in west London over the coming months is vital when it comes to building a squad capable of competing on all fronts come the start of the new season in August.

One man linked with a move to Conte’s side is Real Madrid wantaway, James Rodriguez.

The Colombian playmaker has made just ten La Liga starts under Zinedine Zidane this season and looks as if he’ll be on his way this summer, with Chelsea and Manchester United circling.

Whilst he would be a fine addition for most sides in world football, Chelsea already have a wealth of attacking options in their side, although Rodriguez does seem to tick all the boxes.

The 25-year-old has already experienced the top of the European game, with a Champions League winners medal to his name, and has is captain of the Colombia side with over 50 caps to his name.

Furthermore, in Conte’s setup he would provide the perfect option to play opposite Eden Hazard in the two behind Deigo Costa, or whoever will be leading the line come next season.

Whilst Conte already has great options in Pedro and Willian to fill that role, you would not put it past Chelsea to go out and spend the money required to bring in Rodriguez.

It may not be a necessity but the creativity and goal threat the Real man brings, combined with the fierce pace and talent of Hazard would make for quite the attacking line.
