Why Chelsea Should Not Spend Money On Lukaku

There have been rumors that Romelu Lukaku is keen on returning to Stamford Bridge after being cast away by Mourinho and his staff. The Belgium international who is under contract with Everton until 2019 is willing to leave given the fact that the Toffees failed to meet expectations and finished 11th last season. Some may argue that Chelsea didn’t do so much better but that’s not a common thing for the Londoners. Everyone expects to see a new and improved squad which could win the Premier League trophy even after a disastrous year. One other thing that makes Lukaku’s transfer possible is the fact that rumors of Diego Costa wanting to leave have flooded the internet. Even so there is something that should make Conte not think twice before turning down the Belgium international. According to the Daily Express, Everton want well over a supposed offer of £57million which is ridiculous. Not under any circumstances would this massive striker be worth that much. Regardless of how decent he may be, he is no Messi or Ronaldo. He was never as efficient as Higuain and never more helpful than players like Willian or Hazard who are valued at similar amounts. Lukaku may be just 23 but he is not worth that much especially for a team which is leaning strongly towards a 4-2-4 formation which requires loads of speed and effort.

No one would get upset if Conte would give Michy Batshuayi a chance instead of bringing back Lukaku. No one would mind if Conte would buy a defender and spend the rest of the transfer money on Lacazette, Icardi or Paco Alcacer. There is no reason to spend right now especially with Costa’s departure being more of a fabricated rumor rather than a likely thing. One other reason for which Lukaku should not be signed for so much money is the fact that Conte is not willing to sell any of Chelsea’s stars. To balance out a move such as the one mentioned above, the Blues would have to sell someone like Willian, Hazard or Pedro plus one other team regular. For a striker that scores a game every two matches and had problems adapting to the pressure of a high end club such as Chelsea, Conte shouldn’t pay more than £20illion regardless of how bright his future is.
