Who Will Chelsea Finally Land As Manager?

Who Will Chelsea Finally Land As Manager?

Chelsea sacked their much loved Roberto Di Matteo last year following a string of poor results, and are now managed by interim manager Rafael Benitez. Benitez has endured a torrid spell as Chelsea boss and certainly cannot wait to end his nightmare at Stamford Bridge. As the season comes to a close, the Chelsea hot spot is set to be vacant again. Many managers have been linked with the job of being the next Chelsea boss. The names of Borussia Dortmund’s Jurgen Klopp, Bayern Munich’s Jupp Henyckes, Juventus’ Antonio Conte and even Russia national team manager, Fabio Capello, have been linked with the post.

Another name was doing the rounds a few weeks back, that of current Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone. The former Argentine international is having a rich season leading Atlético, as they find themselves in second spot in the table, sandwiched between Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid. They have also made it to the finals of the Copa Del Rey, where they are set to face their cross-town rivals Real Madrid.

The successful season Atlético are having is down to the impressive leadership skills Simeone has shown. He was being tipped to be the man Chelsea are looking for. Owner Roman Abramovich’s expensively assembled side was dismantled by Diego Simeone’s rampant Atlético Madrid last year in the UEFA Super Cup, where Simeone’s men romped to a 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea.

Since that day, Abramovich is understood to be a keen admirer of the Atlético boss, and fancies bringing him to London in the summer. However, any interest of Chelsea in Simeone looks set to end now, given the fact that he has signed a new and improved 4-year contract extension, which will keep him at the Vicente Calderon for the coming years.

This is the second time Chelsea’s hopes have been crushed by a managerial target, as former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola also declined Chelsea’s approaches. The Spaniard quit Barcelona at the end of last season and decided to take a sabbatical for a year. When he decided to make a return to management, Chelsea were one of the first teams to be linked with him, however, he chose to sign for German giants Bayern Munich over the London club, and is set to take over the side once current boss, Jupp Henyckes, steps down at the end of the season.

Will Chelsea be dealt another blow in their pursuit of a new manager, who will they finally be able to land?
