Which Way Will Chelsea Go? – Transfer Speculation Begins In Earnest

As the focus across football begin to turn to the summer and the impending transfer window, the papers and rumour mills begin to churn out more and more stories concerning the biggest clubs and their movements before the new season.

One story which is bound to run and run, much like the protracted deal for Paul Pogba last year, this time around is the future of Chelsea striker Diego Costa.

The Spain international was at the epicentre of the saga of the Blues season after a training ground bust up with manager Antonio Conte surrounding his fitness and links with a highly lucrative move to the Chinese Super League.

Having seen teammate Oscar make the move to Asia in January, Costa seemingly had his head turned and looked certain to be off sooner rather than later having been dropped for a trip to face champions Leicester City just a couple of months ago.

The top scoring striker has been a huge factor in the success of Conte’s side this season, not only in terms of his goals, but with his hold up play and the effect his presence has on any back four in the Premier League.

Therefore, reports emerging that he is still considering a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, although unsurprising, may seriously worry many Blues fans.

However, their fears need not be as pressing. In the former Atletico Madrid man, who has been a constant target of his former club in recent years, they do have a striker unlike any in the Premier League, however, he is not the only one who can fit Conte’s system.

The former Juventus manager has watched his side break quickly and kill off their opposition with powerful and swift goals on multiple occasions this season. Another imposing talisman, who could well be on the move this summer, fits that bill perfectly, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku.

The former Chelsea man may cost a bomb, however, he is not the only option out there. Plenty of names come to mind who could more than slot into the Italian’s fabled system, the likes of Edinson Cavani or Alvaro Morata to name a couple.

Therefore, although losing Costa would be a concern to any team in world football, it should be no skin off Chelsea’s nose.
