Where Should Chelsea’s Money Go This Summer?

Instead of having a smooth transition between generations Chelsea have struggled this campaign in a season that will go down as one of the worst in the club’s history. It was supposed to go well as everything looked perfectly set up for departures such as that of Lampard, Terry. Unfortunately, the atmosphere on Stamford Bridge was not appropriate to create new leaders. Hazard, Matic, Oscar and Azpilicueta have not delivered this season and the only one who kept his cool was Willian.

To be fair, things have turned around since Hiddink took over. It looks like it`s a bit too late though. The slow start took a toll on the end result. There might be some changes coming to Stamford Bridge as well as some of the players failed to adapt since their arrival. The biggest question is where should most of the transfer money go? Should it go to the attacking line? Or should the midfield or the defense get upgrades?

While the defense and the midfield have been associated with several players during the past couple of months, the attack is narrowing down on two players. Their names? Cavani and Higuain. Apparently both are interested in leaving their team and joining the Premier League. While their efficiency and talent are undeniable, their price might be too much for a team that has a striker like Diego Costa. The Spaniard is revived since playing under Hiddink and despite all his character flaws, he is a great striker. He is younger than the two, he is efficient and he is competitive. He can handle the Premier League and he will surely only improve with time. Add to that the fact that Chelsea also have Bertrand Traore and Pato and you get why all the money should be directed elsewhere. If Metro are right and Chelsea are really looking to buy either of the two South American strikers, the club would possibly not be going in the right direction. This is the time to focus on prospects and bring on promising young footballers. A year like this which will be followed by probably the least pressure felt in years should be used to develop youngsters. Chelsea could easily dominate the Premier League next year if they spend the £120+ million on two defenders and one or two midfielders and one striker.
