What Next For Talented Chelsea Youngsters?

The Blues have gone on a spree in recent transfer windows to acquire the world’s best youngsters and  have brought in Belgian trio Kevin De Bruyne, Romelu Lukaku and Thibaut Courtois. The Blues have subsequently loaned them out to get some experience and hone their skills and have also bought other young talents like Hazard, Oscar and Mata, all of whom are considered to be the finished article.

Lukaku is on a season-long loan with Premier League club West Brom, Courtois is goalkeeping for Spanish side Atletico Madrid and De Bruyne is impressing for German club Werder Bremen. However, their Chelsea future remains up in the air.

Lukaku was considered to be the next Didier Drogba, but went goalless in his debut season, making only a handful of appearances. He was shipped out to West Brom this season to gain some Premier League experience and has excelled at The Hawthorns. He has scored 13 league goals in 25 appearances, which is better than first choice Torres, and looks set to return next season to challenge for a place in the side.

However, De Bruyne may be kept out on loan for another year. The 21-year-old has impressed for Bremen, scoring 6 goals in 26 appearances. His form has attracted the attention of Bayer Leverkusen and it could be wise to send him out on loan again since he faces competition from the likes of Mata and Hazard.

One player who has distanced himself from coming back to Chelsea is Courtois. The 20-year-old has been in superlative form for Atletico and has already kept 15 clean sheets and went 820 minutes without conceding a goal at the Vicente Calderon, a new record for the Spanish outfit.

Courtois is challenging Simon Mignolet as the first choice Belgium ‘keeper’ for the World Cup in 2014 and has reportedly declined to be number two to first-choice goalkeeper at Chelsea, Petr Cech. He would prefer to stay with Atletico to continue his development and enhance his chances of going to the World Cup as first choice goalie.
