What Lampard Told Werner That Persuaded Him To Snub Liverpool In Favour Of Chelsea

RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner was “sold by” by Chelsea manager Frank Lampard’s “vision” of rebuilding Chelsea, and the fact he’d be a key player for the Blues, according to the Independent‘s Melissa Reddy.

The Liverpool ITK journalist says that the Reds were very keen on the forward, with Jurgen Klopp even holding a conversation with the player in April about moving to England.

In fact, Werner’s “preferred destination” was Anfield but the Merseyside club’s refusal to pay the £53m release clause, and Chelsea’s “relentless” pursuit of the German changed his mind.

Of course, money did play a role as well with the 24-year-old expected to see his wages triple to over £10m a season, but the Lampard’s determination to land the striker has paid off handsomely.

With Werner having scored an impressive 32 goals this campaign, Chelsea supporters will be hoping he can replicate that sort of form when he plays in the Premier League.
