What did Sanchez say and why is he the dream signing for Chelsea this summer?

You may have heard about the recent interview that Alexis Sanchez gave whilst away on international duty with Chile. He spoke openly about his future and what he wants, and there was more than a small hint that he might be pining for a move to Chelsea this summer.

The Chilean only has 14 months remaining on his current contract, there may be a real risk of him demanding to move this summer, or going where he pleases on a free the following year.

With speculation already rife about Antonio Conte making Sanchez his number one transfer target the comments only fuelled speculation further.

‘I am happy in London and I hope to finish my contract at Arsenal,’ Sanchez said last week in Santiago.

‘I want to stay in a winning team and keep playing in the same city. I want to play in a team that has aspirations

‘I’m 28 years old, I still have a lot ahead of me. I am a player who takes great care of himself.’

A winning team in the same city he says? Sanchez is clearly alluding to Chelsea here and the comments won’t have gone down well with Arsenal fans. That and the laughing on the bench as his team found themselves 10-2 down on aggregate against Bayern Munich last month.

Despite recent unsavoury acts, Sanchez is usually a model professional, an extremely hard working player who is amongst the most technically gifted in the world.

The Chilean’s Premier League record is outstanding and you can see why Chelsea would jump at the chance of signing him. In his first season in England he bagged 16 goals and 8 assists in 35 Premier League appearances. The following year he scored 14 and assisted 4 in 30 Premier League games. Finally, this season he has 18 goals and 9 assists in 27 Premier League appearances so far. A grand total of 47 goals and 21 assists in 92 Premier League games. Wow.

A front 3 of Hazard, Costa and Sanchez would be one of the, if not the, best that the Premier League has ever seen. With Chelsea playing 5 at the back it allows the front 3 the complete freedom of the pitch with which to express themselves, and devastate the opposition. Hazard has thrived in the formation this year, and you would expect Sanchez to do the same if given the opportunity. A frightening prospect.

With a front 3 of Hazard, Costa and Sanchez playing in front of Kante and a seemingly impregnable defence you would put your house on Chelsea going far in Europe and being at the top of the Premier League again next year. Can they pull off this star transfer though? Time will tell.
