“Welcome to Chelsea” – fans ready for Sarri to replace Conte

Chelsea fans have already began their welcome parade for Maurizio Sarri after the Italian was fired by Napoli last week.

Sarri was shown the door at the Stadio San Paolo less than a week after guiding Napoli to a second placed finish in Serie A.

The Partenopei recorded a club record 91 points in Italy’s top flight, however it still wasn’t enough to prevent Juventus scooping their seventh consecutive Scudetta.

Sarri was replaced by former Chelsea and Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, who signed a three-year deal with the club.

The 59-year-old’s departure has sparked rumours that he could be set to be named the new Chelsea manager in the coming weeks, with current boss Antonio Conte widely expected to leave the club.

Conte’s side finished fifth in the Premier League this season, and despite winning the FA Cup, club owner Roman Abramovich is reportedly unhappy that his side will miss out on Champions League football for the second time in three seasons.

Conte publicly criticised Abramovich earlier in the season, where he called out the Russian for not supplying him with the necessary funds to build a title winning side, despite having won the Premier League the season before.

Should Conte leave Stamford Bridge, Sarri is the favourite to replace him.

It was being rumoured as early as January that the former banker had been lined up as the man to succeed Conte in South West London, and his departure from Italy now appears to have set in motion a series of events that could see him named the new man in charge at The Bridge.

Could it be happening? The Chelsea fans think so …
