“Weird” Gary Lineker Is Perplexed By Criticism Aimed At Chelsea Star

BBC And BT Sport presenter Gary Lineker has leapt to the defence of Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount after the 22-year-old scored the vital opening goal against Porto last night.

The England international has been the subject of intense criticism from fans on social media over the past couple of years, but based on his recent performances, Lineker simply can’t see why supporters would question his ability:

“You still see it, don’t you, on social media? Now, social media, as we know, is full of people that know everything about football, but the Mount misunderstanding is weird.”

Hopefully, the critics of Mount will quickly begin to fade away, considering he has been integral to the Blues’ revival under manager Thomas Tuchel since the turn of the year.

The attacking midfielder now has five goals in the 14 appearances he has made following the German’s arrival at Stamford Bridge, and he was even handed the captain’s armband for the FA Cup quarter-final clash against Sheffield United last month. He looks like he is going from strength to strength, and long may it continue.
