Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has refused to put a timeframe on Christian Pulisic’s return to fitness. The American international has not played since New Year’s Day after sustaining a groin injury, and when asked about when the winger could return, the Blues boss was not willing to say when he would make his comeback:
“We tried to get him out there last week, step it up a little bit, but we had to pull out of that. The break might have come at a good time, it buys us a couple of weeks. Of course, you miss him. He’s a quality player and he was having a really good patch pre-Christmas. Others have to stand up too, but of course, we’ll be happy when he’s back.”
It seems that Pulisic may have had some sort of setback in his recovery, going by Lampard’s words, but other reports have suggested that the player is confident he will be back to face Manchester United after the winter break. Fans on Twitter are keeping their fingers crossed that the 21-year-old will be back in contention:
we need this guy on the field

We’re really missing his ability to dribble in tight towards goal. He gives us another attacking dynamic instead of us just being inshallah cross FC

We really need him for our next few games.

Just bring him back and let him take back his rightful place. Enough of the lower performers. Time to build a consistent 1st level & only change when one underperforms.

There’s no doubt that Chelsea could do with someone like Pulisic who can provide more of a cutting edge in the final third of the pitch.
The American has six goals and six assists in 23 games this season. Lampard has bemoaned the absence of someone who can kill off opponents and supporters will be hoping that the winger will be back in time to make a telling contribution against United later this month.
