Voller Makes New Statement On Havertz’s Future As Chelsea Make Another Bid

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has stated that they are prepared to keep Kai Havertz for another year if Chelsea do not meet their valuation of the player.

The Bundesliga have stuck to their €100m (£90m) asking price and Voller has explained why they are not willing to lower their demands:

“In times of Corona it may actually be that the transfer fees have decreased for many players. But Corona or Corona – this is not the case with exceptional players like Havertz or Jadon Sancho. There is no Corona discount for them. Of course, we would be very happy if he stayed for another year.”

It is clear that the departure of such a player, despite the high transfer fee, always means a loss – see Leipzig and Werner. There is nothing new in this regard, and we are still very relaxed about it. What makes Kai Havertz so interesting is the fact that he embodies world-class in four or five positions.”

The Guardian‘s Fabrizio Romano took to Twitter last night to say that Chelsea have made a new bid. Their first offer was believed to be in the region of €80m and it is thought they will table an improved proposal, which will include a number of add-ons and performance-related bonuses.

Leverkusen are keen to have the deal finalised by the end of August, with the German club returning to preseason training on the 28th, and it looks as though there could be some extensive negotiations taking place over the coming days in order to find an agreement over the transfer fee.
